Even if Aaron Rodgers wants to come back from injury and play for the Green Bay Packers in their Thanksgiving matchup against the division rival Detroit Lions, his head coach doesn’t think it will happen.
Mike McCarthy told reporters on Monday that the chances of his top quarterback playing are small.

Rodgers broke his collarbone on Nov. 4 against the Chicago Bears and hasn’t played since that game. In his place, backups Matt Flynn and Scott Tolzien have taken the most snaps, but neither player has impressed and the team is 0-3-1 (including the Chicago game) since losing its star quarterback.
The Lions and Bears both have 6-5 records and hold a slim lead over the 5-5-1 Packers for the NFC North division lead. In the likely event that the two NFC wild card playoff berths are earned by NFC South and NFC West teams, winning the division might be the Packers’ only hope of reaching the postseason.
Making the playoffs is one of the Packers’ top goals this season, but it shouldn’t risk Rodgers coming back too soon and doing further damage to his collarbone just to have a better chance of playing football in January.
