FOXBORO, Mass. — Most teams would have folded at the half.
With the temperature frosty, the wind kicking up and one of the best to ever play the game leading the opposing team, what were the chances the Patriots could come back? They weren’t good, but they were good enough for the 2013 Patriots.
They knew it would take a near-perfect half to come back against Denver, and New England nearly did it in a single quarter. The Patriots are a perfect mix of veterans who have been around long enough to see it all and young players who haven’t been around long enough to know that victories like this are usually not possible.
The game looked over at the half. After three fumbles on three drives for New England, it almost seemed like a waste. The postgame stories would have been about what could have been if not for the string of mistakes. But that’s not how the story was to be written.
