LaQuan WilliamsFOXBORO, Mass. — LaQuan Williams‘ tenure in New England did not last long.

The newly signed wide receiver was released by the Patriots on Friday. Williams was signed on Tuesday. Since New England had a bye week, Williams never suited up for a game with New England.

Williams tweeted at Chad Johnson asking for advice on how to learn the Patriots’ playbook on Thursday. He quickly deleted the tweet, which he made sure to specify was serious, after fans pointed out that Johnson had trouble learning the complicated system in his year with New England.

Williams is being sued for his involvement in a fight, according to The Baltimore Sun. The Patriots had seven wide receivers on their roster prior to Williams’ release.

The move could coincide with the Patriots activating Shane Vereen from short-term injured reserve. New England needed an open roster spot for the move.
