The worst has been confirmed for Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls.
On Monday, the Bulls star will undergo surgery on his torn meniscus, and the Chicago Tribune is reporting that Rose will likely have his meniscus reattached, sidelining him for the remainder of the season.
Although it is possible that Rose could get back on the court sooner than that, head coach Tom Thibodeau would not set a timetable, admitting that they won’t know how long they’ll be without their point guard until after the surgery is performed.
“We’re hoping for the best,” Thibodeau said. “We of course feel very badly for Derrick. I talked to him at length [Saturday] night. He’s in good spirits, about as well as can be expected under the circumstances. And he’s already thinking about his rehab. Typical Derrick, he’s concerned about his team, his teammates.”
The surgery will be performed by team physician Dr. Brian Cole, who also repaired Rose’s torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in 2012.
