Ilya Bryzgalov is back in the NHL, and he’s reportedly going to the struggling Edmonton Oilers.
TSN’s Aaron Ward first broke the news, which came right after the Oilers traded defenseman Ladislav Smid and goalie Olivier Roy to the Calgary Flames for two prospects.

Stephen Whyno of the Canadian Press has reported that the deal between the Oilers and Bryzgalov is for one year.

After two years of poor performances, Bryzgalov’s contract with the Philadelphia Flyers was bought out in the summer, making him a free agent. The veteran goaltender wasn’t able to land a deal with an NHL team in training camp or the first month of the regular season, but with the Oilers’ chances of making the playoffs decreasing with every loss, a move had to be made.
Devan Dubnyk started the season as the Oilers’ No. 1 goaltender, but he’s failed to impress with a 3-6-1 record, a 3.80 GAA and a .870 save percentage.
Edmonton has the worst record in the Western Conference at 4-11-2 and ranks 30th in GAA.
