Matt Flynn was once the most coveted backup quarterback in the NFL following the 2011 season, but after failing to earn the starting quarterback job on the Seattle Seahawks last year and Oakland Raiders this year, the 28-year-old is going back to where his career began.
The Green Bay Packers, who need to find a new starting quarterback with all-pro Aaron Rodgers recovering from a broken collarbone, have reportedly signed Flynn, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Green Bay lost to rival Chicago Bears in the game Rodgers got hurt in Week 9, then lost to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Seneca Wallace and Scott Tolzien have played at quarterback in these two games, but neither player has performed at a high level. Flynn may be a better fit given his familiarity with the offense, the coaching staff and many of the team’s players.
The Packers trail the Detroit Lions by one game in the NFC North standings, and play the New York Giants on the road in Week 11.
