NFL games can end in ties. Maybe players should learn that already.
The Packers and Vikings played four quarters and an overtime on Sunday, finishing the fifth quarter all tied up at 26. So, naturally, the game ended in a tie. Although, some players were expecting to keep going.
Multiple Packers players were expecting to play a second overtime on Sunday, according to Sports Illustrated’s Robert Klemko, admitting that they didn’t know that ending in a tie was even possible. Sunday’s game marked the second time in two seasons that a game had ended in a tie.
After the 49ers and Rams finished tied 24-24 in Week 10 last season, quarterback Colin Kaepernick admitted that he didn’t know they could tie as well. Former Eagles Donovan McNabb and many of his teammates were clueless about the possibility of a tie when Philadelphia and Cincinnati drew to a 13-13 score in 2008.
The college rules call for multiple overtimes to decide a game, likely causing many players to assume that those rules would apply in the NFL as well. However, it’s mind boggling to think that guys who have been in the NFL for even a few years, especially after having experienced a tie in the league last season, would still be unaware of the rules.
