After Ahmad Brooksbrutal but seemingly legal hit on Drew Brees in Sunday’s 49ers-Saints game, the San Francisco linebacker had some strong words for the direction he sees the NFL moving. “Football, the way they call stuff these days, it’s watered down,” Brooks said after the game.

“It ain’t real no more.”

Brooks isn’t alone in his last-sane-man routine, though, as former Baltimore Raven and current ESPN analyst Ray Lewis is backing up his linebacker brother-in-arms.

Brooks was given a penalty for roughing the passer for his hit on Brees, and given the NFL’s insistence on protecting its star quarterbacks, sometimes even at the expense of other players and existing rules, Lewis may have to actually put his money where his famously large mouth is.
