Robinson CanoThe Robinson Cano free agency tour visited a cross-town rival.

Cano’s agents — Jay-Z included — called a meeting with members of the Mets organization Monday to discuss their client, whom they’re marketing as a franchise-altering player, according to multiple reports. It’s unclear how much interest the Mets have in pursuing the free-agent second baseman, but there is apparently enough for them to at least meet with Cano’s representatives.

According to the New York Post, Cano was represented at the meeting by Jay-Z and agents Brodie Van Wagenen and Juan Perez. He did not attend himself. The Mets were reportedly represented by general manager Sandy Alderson, assistant GM John Ricco and COO Jeff Wilpon. Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reports that the two camps did not exchange potential salary figures, and instead focused on discussing Cano as a player.

Martino also reports that Cano’s reps delivered what was described as a “Boras-like” presentation, which is funny because the five-time All-Star actually fired Scott Boras before joining Roc Nation Sports in April. In other words, the presentation, according to Martino, likely included plenty of printed materials and visual elements.

Monday’s meeting comes as somewhat of a surprise, and it’s still difficult to imagine things progressing too much. Cano reportedly isn’t budging off his request for a 10-year, $310 million contract, and Alderson said at least week’s GM meetings in Orlando, Fla., that he can’t envision signing a player to a nine-figure contract this winter.
