NFL games aren’t usually subject to rain delays, so it’s no surprise that Soldier Field wasn’t aptly prepared for the delay in the Bears-Ravens’ game on Sunday.
Officials halted the Bears game midway through the first quarter on Sunday, as torrential downpours, on top of a pre-existing tornado warning, was just too much to overlook. The rain poured down on the stadium, forcing the teams to escape to their respective locker rooms, even causing the stadium to evacuate fans from their seats.
Fans were sent to the covered concourse areas inside the stadium, where they could enjoy some warm snacks and maybe a few cold beers while they waited out the storm — or so they thought, at least. One Soldier Field employee admitted that they had to close down to the concession stands during the delay because “too much beer” was being sold.

Too much beer? That seems like a pretty absurd notion. Stadiums usually make most of their profits at the concession stands, meaning that Soldier Field had to be severely unprepared for a delay of any kind, considering they couldn’t even endure an extra hour or two of beer sales.
Those poor fans. What are they expected to do now with no football and no beer? Madness.
