Max ScherzerMax Scherzer is likely going to be named the American League Cy Young winner this week. He also might be traded at some point.

According to CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman, the Tigers have told teams that they’re open to trading either Scherzer or Rick Porcello.

Scherzer is coming off a fantastic 2013 season in which he went 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA. The 29-year-old posted an impressive 0.97 WHIP, and also struck out 240 in 214 1/3 innings. Scherzer is slated to hit free agency following the 2014 season, so trade speculation has begun to circulate as the Tigers begin to weigh their options in the event that they can’t re-sign the right-hander, whose value is certainly high right now.

Porcello doesn’t offer quite the same value as Scherzer, but he also put together a decent 2013. The 24-year-old went 13-8 with a 4.32 ERA in 32 appearances (29 starts), and could be seen as a solid mid-rotation starter with upside.
