It appears that the Yankees are nowhere near being done making moves this offseason.
After signing Brian McCann to a five-year, $85 million deal, New York is setting its sights on more high-profile free agents, targeting outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury, Carlos Beltran and Shin-Soo Choo as well as shortstop Stephen Drew and starter Hiroki Kuroda, reports CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman.
Heyman notes that the Yankees are engaged in talks with the five free agents, and, in addition, they are also working to set up a meeting with Robinson Cano to “see if there’ something to talk about.”
While the two sides still remain about $150 million apart in negotiations with Cano, the Bronx Bombers are hoping to schedule a meeting with their second baseman next week. It is unclear if the meeting will happen, but if the Yankees are unable to bring Cano back, Heyman reports that the Yankees will be able to add three more free agents and still stay under a $189 million payroll target.
