Robert Griffin III had arguably his worst game as a pro on Monday night. Then again, his entire season hasn’t been anything to write home about. Things have been so bad, in fact, that one 49ers player doesn’t think Griffin should even be playing.
Linebacker Ahmad Brooks, who sacked Griffin twice in the 49ers’ 24-6 win in Washington on Monday, doesn’t seem to believe that the Redskins quarterback is 100 percent healthy, even saying Griffin shouldn’t be out there.
“I don’t think he should be playing,” Brooks said, per CSN Washington. “You can see it. Everybody can see it, everybody can see it.”
Griffin suffered a partially torn ACL during Washington’s playoff loss to the Seahawks in the wild-card round in January. He healed quickly from the injury, though, and has started every game for Washington this season. His numbers and overall effectiveness this season haven’t been on par with that of his rookie campaign, leading to speculation that he may not be fully healthy. Yet, Griffin continues to lead Washington onto the field each Sunday.
“He’s a man, he has the heart of a warrior and is going to go out there and play regardless of the circumstance,” Brooks said of RG3. “Everybody can see it. Everybody can see it. He shouldn’t be playing.”
Griffin is completing just 59 percent of his passes this season, compared to nearly 66 percent (fifth-best in the NFL) last season. He’s also averaging just 5.1 yards per carry, down from 6.8, and has yet to score a rushing touchdown, whereas he scored seven times on the ground in 2012. And after throwing an NFL-low five interceptions last season, Griffin has already been picked off 11 times this year.
Whether he’s 100 percent healthy or not, there is clearly something different with RG3 this season. And it’s not for the better.
