Tim Wakefield ‘Truly Humbled’ by Receiving Brooks Robinson Community Service Award

Tim Wakefield‘s playing career may be over, but his charitable endeavors are not.

Wakefield was named the 2013 recipient of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association’s Brooks Robinson Community Service Award at the 14th Annual Legends for Youth Dinner in New York City on Tuesday.

The Brooks Robinson Community Service Award is given annually by the MLBPAA to a current or former major leaguer who exemplifies the unselfish and humble attitude of Brooks Robinson through community service and by bettering the lives of the youth in his community.

Dustin Pedroia was also honored at Tuesday’s event. The Red Sox second baseman was named the 2013 winner of the Heart & Hustle award, given annually to an active player who demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game.

Bobby Richardson and Ozzie Smith were given Lifetime Achievement Awards on Tuesday.
