Getting fans to spend their hard-earned money to watch the local basketball team can be tough in a challenging economy, which forces marketing departments of NBA teams to be creative with their ticket promotions.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have come up with one of these interesting promotions by offering fans a chance to high-five players of the defending champion Miami Heat as they come out of the tunnel prior to their Dec. 7 matchup at the Target Center.

Promoting an opportunity to watch or interact with players of the opposing team is normally seen from clubs with losing records that are having trouble selling tickets. The Timberwolves (8-9) do have plenty of star players who provide an exciting experience at the arena each night, including point guard Ricky Rubio and superstar forward Kevin Love, but the team ranks 24th in attendance percentage this season, according to ESPN.
