Dwight HowardThe last two years of Dwight Howard‘s NBA career have not gone as smoothly as he would have hoped.

After many months of rumors, he was finally traded from the Orlando Magic to the Los Angeles Lakers in the summer of 2012, but his first season in Hollywood was a disaster. Not only did Howard fail to meet expectations as an elite center, but the Lakers also weren’t able to re-establish themselves as one of the top contenders for the NBA championship.

That led to him leaving L.A. and signing with the Houston Rockets in free agency this past offseason. Unfortunately for Howard, the Rockets are off to a mediocre 8-5 start, and his frustration boiled over on Wednesday night when he was hit with a technical foul for throwing a ball at a heckling fan.

But it only got worse for Howard after the Rockets’ loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

Speaking with ESPN.com reporter Tim MacMahon, Mavericks guard Vince Carter gave a candid response when asked about Howard’s complaining.

“All the time,” Carter said of Howard’s whining to officials. “He always talks about how I’m a crybaby. I was like, ‘Yo, you’re the biggest crybaby I know.’ And then later, he’s like, ‘Yo, why’d you say that to me?’ But I know Dwight. It’s all good, but he is [a crybaby].

“I mean, he takes a lot of punishment, but I’m like, ‘Yo, c’mon Dwight, c’mon. You elbowed, you’re sitting in the paint the entire time. What are you whining about?’ He told me to stop crying. I was like, ‘What? Are you serious?’”

Carter isn’t the first person to suggest that Howard spends too much time arguing with officials and loses focus. Maybe learning to move on from bad calls could help Howard become part of that elusive championship team.
