As the regular season rolls on, the AFC’s top teams continue to produce remarkable storylines, but which squad is worthy of being called the best team in the conference?
Sitting atop the AFC East, New England has stumbled out of the gates, but stumbling to the tune of 7-2 doesn’t sound like such a bad deal. Plagued with injuries, an inconsistent offense and some issues with the run defense throughout the first half of the season, the Pats look poised for a second-half surge. With Rob Gronkowski already back and healthy, Shane Vereen and Aqib Talib are both expected to start in Week 11, providing the strongest and deepest combination of players the Patriots have rolled out since Week 1.
Meanwhile in the AFC West, the Broncos and Chiefs have jumped out to dominating starts with Kansas City remaining undefeated and the Broncos only falling once, courtesy of the AFC South-leading Indianapolis Colts. Following Denver’s Week 10 matchup against San Diego, the top teams in the West will duel it out twice in three weeks, battling for the No. 1 spot in arguably the toughest division in the league.
In a disappointing AFC North, the Bengals hold the top spot with Andy Dalton and A.J. Green leading the way to a 6-4 record. In a division typically dominated by the Steelers or the Ravens, Cincinnati has emerged as a force to be reckoned with, despite falling to Baltimore on Sunday afternoon, losing in overtime for the second straight week.
