In the age of Google, popularity can be quantified.
The search engine has released its list of trending athletes from 2013, and the most-searched sports figures from the year are not too surprising. Aaron Hernandez, who had one of the biggest falls from grace in sports history after being accused of murder, led the list. Kevin Ware, who was at the center of one of the worst injuries in sports history, also made it.
Controversy seemed to be a big catch for those who showed up in the ranking, with (more) murder charges and drug troubles tied to those in the Top 10.
Not everyone who hit up the Google machine was looking for dirt, though. Some of the NFL’s Super Bowl contenders snuck in, and Lindsey Vonn — who shouldn’t have been this surprised she made it after she started dating Tiger Woods this year — also got the Winter Olympics’ presence rolling.
