Adrian PetersonThe Minnesota Vikings will be closing out their season without the services of Adrian Peterson.

The star running back was listed as doubtful after being pulled in the second half of the Bengals game on Sunday, but the team has officially announced that he will not be playing in Minnesota’s season finale against the Detroit Lions.

Peterson has been battling foot and groin injuries that have hindered him from matching the numbers he put up in his remarkable 2012 season that saw him win league MVP honors and come within nine yards of breaking Eric Dickerson‘s all-time single-season rushing record.

Although Peterson entered the year with ambitions of becoming the first player to rush for 2,500 yards, he will finish the season with just 1,266 yards and 10 touchdowns on 279 carries.

With backup running back Toby Gerhart also sidelined because of a strained hamstring, the Vikes will turn once again to Matt Asiata.
