The Boston College Eagles’ bowl game losing streak extended to four games on Tuesday when they were defeated 42-19 by Arizona in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl in Louisiana.
Wildcats running back Ka’Deem Carey, who finished second in the Doak Walker Award voting to B.C.’s Andre Williams, led the way with 169 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Arizona’s passing game was also impressive. Senior quarterback B.J. Denker completed 17 of 24 passes for 275 yards and three total touchdowns, two of which were thrown to freshman wide receiver Trey Griffey (son of former baseball player Ken Griffey Jr.).
Arizona gained 529 total yards despite losing the time of possession battle by about 11 minutes. The Wildcats broke the game open in the second quarter with two touchdowns in the final 4:16 of the first half, which resulted in a 21-6 lead.
Arizona never trailed in the contest, and were able to hold Williams, a Heisman Trophy finalist, to just 75 rushing yards. The Wildcats defense also forced two interceptions, including one that sophomore safety William Parks brought back for a touchdown in the second quarter to start Arizona’s run of 35 unanswered points.
Despite the loss, Boston College enjoyed a successful 2013 season, finishing with a 7-6 record just one year after struggling to a 2-10 mark.
