The Bruins have started the 2013-14 season with a strong 18-8-2 record, but what’s even more impressive is that the Original Six club has been among the Eastern Conference leaders all year without giving a complete, 60-minute effort.

Boston will need a three-period effort on Saturday night when it hosts the Eastern Conference-leading Pittsburgh Penguins at TD Garden. The Penguins are one of the elite teams in the NHL, and they make their opponents pay for mistakes, which was evident in their 5-1 victory over the Pacific Division-leading San Jose Sharks on Thursday night.
