Vancouver Canucks forward Alex Burrows has undergone successful surgery on a broken jaw and could miss as much as a month before returning to the ice, which means he will miss his team’s Dec. 14 game against the Boston Bruins.

Burrows, of course, became one of the central figures in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final when he bit Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron at the end of the first period in Game 1. He was not suspended by the NHL and scored two goals in the Canucks’ 3-2 victory in Game 2, including the overtime winner.

When the two teams met in Boston for a rematch during the 2011-12 regular season, Burrows started a line brawl in the first period by spearing Shawn Thornton at the end of a shift.

The Bruins didn’t play the Canucks or any other Western Conference team last year due to the inter-conference schedule put in place after the lockout, which makes Boston’s Dec. 14 matchup at Rogers Arena its first game in Vancouver since Game 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final.
