Tricia Drummond is one of the toughest, most dedicated hockey fans out there. Why? Because she took a hockey puck to the head — and stayed to watch the rest of the game.

Drummond was at Saturday’s Capitals-Flyers matchup when the puck flew from the rink during the third period and nailed her in the right temple, knocking her unconscious. When she came to, Drummond was staring up at a group of people, unsure of how she ended up on the Verizon Center floor.

EMS workers took her to a medical room in the arena where they told Drummond she would need stitches. But once she heard Alex Ovechkin tie the game in the final minute of the third period to complete a three-goal rally, Drummond told the medical workers she would get stitches later, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Puck Daddy blog. Drummond returned to her seat — with gauze wrapped around the gash in her head — in time to see her Capitals win 5-4 in a shootout.

It should come as no surprise that Drummond played hockey from the time she was 8 years old, but the tough chick eventually received five stitches at George Washington Medical Center later that night. She said taking a puck to the dome actually made her feel closer to her favorite team.

“Every time you go to a live game, every time you go to an event, you feel closer,” she told Puck Daddy. “The team becomes almost personal. I don’t know how much more of a Caps fan I can get.”

And just in time for Christmas, Drummond got some pretty authentic NHL gifts — a bloody face and an official game puck.
