Another injured Bruin will make his way back to the ice Friday night, as head coach Claude Julien announced Daniel Paille will be in the lineup for Boston’s game against the Ottawa Senators.
The winger has missed the last seven games since suffering a concussion during a 5-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Dec. 8.
A roster spot for Paille, who has three goals and two assists in 30 games this season, opened up when the Bruins sent winger Nick Johnson and defenseman David Warsofsky back to Providence on Tuesday.
Julien also announced that 24-year-old Niklas Svedberg, who was recalled from Providence on Friday, will back up Tuukka Rask in net against the Senators, replacing usual second-stringer Chad Johnson.
“[Svedberg] earned the opportunity here to get some games,” Julien said. “We told him we would and we’re keeping our promise because he’s deserving of it. At the same time, Chad understands and sees what kind of camp this guy had and hockey’s hockey. Everybody battles for their jobs and everybody battles to keep them. It’s just another healthy competition.”
The coach said Svedberg’s first NHL start might come as soon as Saturday, when the Bruins travel to Ottawa for the second game of a home-and-home.
