Eleven San Francisco Giants prospects avoided serious injury when the van they were traveling in was struck by another vehicle Tuesday morning in Scottsdale, Ariz., home of the Giants’ spring training facility.
The driver of the other car was not injured, according to The Associated Press, but five of the players were transported to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center with injuries that CSN Bay Area’s Andrew Baggarly described as “not life or career threatening.”

According to Baggarly, the players involved were left-handers Adalberto Mejia and Bryce Bandilla, right-handers Daniel Slania and Jeff Soptic, and infielder Kelby Tomlinson. MLB.com ranks Mejia as the No. 19 prospect in the Giants system.
The players underwent X-rays and CT scans and were treated for minor injuries, but all five were released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
“I know it could have been a lot worse than it was,” Bandilla told CSNBayArea.com.
San Francisco was scheduled to open a three-week conditioning camp for top minor leaguers on Tuesday, but in the wake of the crash, the organization has decided to postpone the start until a later date.
“Let them talk about it, give them time,” Giants farm director Shane Turner said. “We’ll be very cautious and make sure everything is OK.”
