Julian EdelmanFOXBORO, Mass. — After a breakout season, Julian Edelman has been dubbed “Minitron” by his quarterback.

The wide receiver is having none of it, though. Edelman feigned ignorance over the nickname that has swept New England.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Edelman said smirking when asked what he thought of his new moniker.

Fellow wideout Matthew Slater was certainly aware of it.

“Oh! Minitron!” Slater said when the nickname came up.

Edelman said he’s had “too many nicknames” over the years, but his favorite is the one his mother calls him, “Ju Ju.”

On “Minitron,” though, Edelman directed all questions to the man who came up with the nickname, his signal caller Tom Brady.

“Whoever made that up, you’re going to have to ask them on that,” Edelman said looking up at Brady’s locker.

Brady was asked about “Minitron” last week. Brady wouldn’t get into details on how the name came to be but said it fit Edelman “very well.”

Edelman has 89 catches for 914 yards and six touchdowns on the season. He’s on pace for over 100 catches and 1,000 yards. He hasn’t quite been “Megatron” this year, but perhaps he deserves better than “Minitron.”
