Ed Davis, Kelly OlynykKelly Olynk is back on the practice court and could be playing in games again by this time next week.

Olynyk has been out since Nov. 22 with a sprained right ankle and will stay out at least through the weekend, Brad Stevens said prior to the Celtics’ game against the Nuggets. Olynyk went through a light workout Friday morning and will try to go lightly in practice on Saturday, according to Stevens. As of Monday, Olynyk will be upgraded to day-to-day, although Tuesday’s game in Brooklyn is probably too soon to expect Olynyk back.

“Tuesday might be a stretch, might not be,” Stevens said. “I don’t know, but he’s close to being back.”

Olynyk, the 13th overall pick in last spring’s draft, is averaging 7.5 points per game in 14 games, six of which have been starts, but offense has been hard to come by for the rookie. He is shooting just 39 percent from the field and has the second-lowest true shooting percentage among Celtics regulars.

Olynyk’s biggest impact has come on the glass. He is second on the team in offensive rebounding percentage and fourth in overall rebounding percentage, although he is averaging a rather modest 8.6 rebounds per 36 minutes.
