Kevan Miller Leaves Game After Being Boarded by Dion Phaneuf Late in Bruins Win (GIF)

The Bruins can’t buy a break when it comes to defensemen, and that trend continued Sunday night in Toronto.

With Dougie Hamilton already out with presumably a lower-body injury suffered in the first period, the Bruins also lost Kevan Miller in the final moments of an eventual 5-2 win over the Maple Leafs.

Miller was the victim of what looked to be an illegal hit from Toronto captain Dion Phaneuf. Although Miller had his back to the ice and was a foot or two away from the boards, Phaneuf planted Miller with a big hit. Miller’s face went into the boards and glass before he fell to the ice. He was initially shaken up, but he eventually skated off. However, he ended up going down the tunnel and didn’t return. There was only 2:17 to play when the hit happened.

Bruins coach Claude Julien said after the game that Miller is expected to be OK, and he should be ready to go for the team’s game Tuesday in Calgary.

Somehow, the hit was not penalized.
