Lolo Jones Wins Silver Medal With U.S. Bobsled Team, Vies for Spot on Winter Olympics Squad

Lolo Jones blend Track athlete Lolo Jones could be closer to returning to the Olympic stage — in the Winter Olympics.

Jones is a second-year member of the U.S. women’s bobsled team and on Saturday, the U.S swept the medals in Park City, Utah, at the Women’s Bobsled World Cup. Jones and Jamie Greubel tied for silver with Jazmine Fenlator and Lauryn Williams with a time of 1:39.24.

Jones is best known for her career as an elite track athlete. She finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles at the 2012 London Olympics, and is the American record holder in the 60 meter hurdles. She took up bobsledding in 2012 after announcing her retirement from track and secured a spot on the bobsled national team in October.

“Last year I was just soaking everything in. It was an adventure, it was fun, it was nothing really on the line for me,” Jones said. “It was just kind of an escape and there were no expectations. So now coming into my second year, they expect me to be more knowledgeable and more of a leader.”

The U.S. Olympic team for the Sochi games will be named in mid-January, and Jones and Greubel’s silver medal puts them squarely in the mix for spots on that roster.
