It was clear from the start that Milan Lucic was not keen on fighting Luke Gazdic.

In what was an obvious attempt by a fourth-line grinder to take an opposing top-liner off the ice for five minutes, the Oilers’ Gazdic began chirping Lucic along the boards during the second period Thursday night. The big winger at first shrugged off Gazdic’s shoves, but he eventually relented, shaking off his right glove and landing a hard punch to the side of the rookie’s head.

The two traded blows in a spirited scrap, with Lucic having the upper hand initially but Gazdic later dizzying him with an uppercut to the chin. Referees finally pulled the two exhausted combatants apart after Lucic put Gazdic in an awkward headlock, ending the fight in what would most accurately be classified as a draw (42 percent of HockeyFights.com users gave the win to Lucic, while 39.6 percent leaned toward Gazdic).
