NHL Announces Tom Wilson Won’t Face Supplemental Discipline for Hit on Brayden Schenn (Video)

At first glance, it sure looked like Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson was going to get supplemental discipline for his crushing hit on Philadelphia Flyers forward Brayden Schenn. The NHL didn’t necessarily see it that way.

The league’s department of player safety announced Thursday afternoon that Wilson would not only avoid suspension, but that there would be no supplemental discipline at all for his hit on Schenn.

In one of the department’s most thorough and well-explained videos, director of player safety Brendan Shanahan explained that Schenn’s hit wasn’t actually that bad. Shanahan said that because Schenn was turning as the hit came, that it ended up looking worse than Wilson had actually intended. Wilson was doing his job getting in on the forecheck, Shanahan detailed, and he didn’t go high, either.
