Tim Thomas struggled in net yet again Tuesday night, surrendering four goals for the third consecutive game as his Panthers fell to the Senators 4-2. Luckily for the veteran netminder, though, not many were around to see it.
Florida announced an attendance of 10,074 at the BB&T Center, the lowest mark since Oct. 31, 2008, when 10,003 fans made it into the arena for a game against the Hurricanes on Halloween.
Attendance has always been an issue for the Miami-area franchise, which has recorded double-digit sellouts in just three of its 14 seasons since moving to the Panthers’ current home rink. Tuesday night’s turnout was barely half the stadium’s listed capacity of 19,250, and judging by a photo taken by the Miami Herald’s George Richards at puck drop, the recorded attendance figure was rather generous.
