If you blinked, you missed Alex Castellanos‘ tenure with the Red Sox.
Castellanos, who was acquired by the Red Sox from the Dodgers in October, is joining the Rangers on a waiver claim, according to a press release. The Red Sox designated Castellanos for assignment on Dec. 12 to make room for Mike Napoli on the club’s 40-man roster.
The Sox acquired Castellanos from the Dodgers on Oct. 23. for minor leaguer Jeremy Hazelbaker and cash. The 27-year-old hit .167 (3-for-18) in eight games with Los Angeles in 2013 and .174 (4-for-23) in 16 major league games in 2012. Castellanos spent the bulk of his 2013 season with Triple-A Albuquerque, batting .257 with 19 home runs and 61 RBIs in 105 games.
Castellanos, a former 10th-round pick, was shipped from the Cardinals to the Dodgers for shortstop Rafael Furcal in July 2011.
