Red Wings Forced to Practice in Dark During Power Outage at Joe Louis Arena (Video)

The Detroit Red Wings unintentionally recreated a scene from Miracle on Monday, being forced to hold their morning skate in the dark after a majority of the lights inside Joe Louis Arena went out.

One half of the rink was decently lit, but the other was shrouded in almost complete darkness — not the ideal setting to be chasing around a black puck.

“It’s been interesting for sure,” Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith said, via The Morning Sun. “I didn’t know if we’re even going to get to practice at the start but I guess we had to play half ice because half of the rink was lit up. But it’s been alright, I mean it’s just a little adversity but it’s cool to have a change sometimes maybe it will help us out somehow.”

Power in the arena returned in time for Wednesday night’s game against the Islanders, but the Red Wings’ offense remained dark. The Isles defeated Detroit 3-0, handing the Wings their second shutout loss in five games.
