Omer AsikOmer Asik could still be headed to Boston after all, according to the most recent report in the ongoing saga involving the Celtics and the disgruntled Rockets center.

Talks involving a package of Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee and a first-round draft pick broke down either last week or the week before, depending on the source, and Thursday came and went without Houston making a deal by its own deadline. But the Celtics and Rockets have not given up trying to come to an agreement, Yahoo! Sports reports.

“The Rockets let their self-imposed deadline to trade center Omer Asik pass,” Marc J. Spears writes, “but Boston is still having trade discussions in hopes of landing him, a source said.”

The Celtics have played without a true center with NBA experience, leaning on Jared Sullinger, Vitor Faverani, Kris Humphries and Kelly Olynyk to take up the bulk of the minutes at the five spot recently. They were outscored 50-22 in the paint during Sunday’s loss to the Pacers.
