The Minnesota Vikings have done a 180 this season, and it appears head coach Leslie Frazier will suffer the consequences.
Frazier will be fired as the Vikings’ head coach Monday, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports. Frazier is in his fourth year as the head man in Minnesota, after taking over on an interim basis in Week 11 in 2010. He led the Vikings to a 3-3 finish that season before receiving the job full time.
In three-plus seasons with the Vikings, Frazier is 20-33-1 with only one trip to the playoffs. After a dismal 3-13 showing in 2011, he led the Vikings to a 10-6 record in 2012, grabbing the sixth seed in the NFC before getting trounced 24-10 by the NFC North rival Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round.
The Vikings are 4-10-1 this season — a big disappointment considering the heightened expectations coming off of 2012. Frazier also has failed to develop a reliable franchise quarterback, with former first-round draft pick Christian Ponder not able to establish himself and losing the job at times to Matt Cassel and Josh Freeman.
There aren’t any front-runners for the potential Vikings opening, although ex-Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith, Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien and San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt seem to be attracting the most attention in the coaching market so far.
