The Halos have found their replacement for Mark Trumbo.
The Angels have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Raul Ibanez, according to the Los Angles Times. The deal reportedly carries a base salary of $2.75 million, but incentives could increase the total value to $5 million.
Ibanez is entering his 19th major league season. The 41-year-old will serve as the Angels’ designated hitter, replacing Trumbo, who was traded to the Diamondbacks at last week’s winter meetings in Orlando. Ibanez will reportedly receive all of the incentives tied to his new deal if he remains in Los Angeles’ lineup all season.
Ibanez spent his 2013 campaign with the Mariners, hitting .242 with 29 homers and 65 RBIs in 124 games. Trumbo launched 34 bombs and drove in 100 runs in 159 games, but the Angels moved the 27-year-old to add pitching in the form of Tyler Skaggs and Hector Santiago.
The Angels’ next order of business likely involves adding more pitching, with Matt Garza and Masahiro Tanaka (if he’s posted by his Japanese club) among the names being tossed around in conjunction with L.A.
