Rob GronkowskiThe injury bug has become something more of a monster for the Patriots this season, and it got even worse on Sunday.

Rob Gronkowski suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during the third quarter of the Patriots’ comeback 27-26 win over the Browns on Sunday, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports. He will miss the rest of the season with the injury.

Gronkowski suffered a severe knee injury on a 21-yard catch over the middle of the field midway through the third quarter, when Browns safety T.J. Ward launched into his legs. The hit left Gronkowski writhing in pain on the field, and he needed to be carted back into the locker room.

Gronkowski has a history of injuries since joining the Patriots in the second round in 2010. He suffered an ankle injury in the AFC Championship Game in 2011, forcing him to play a limited role for the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI. He also twice broke his forearm last season, missing the AFC championship game. He had multiple surgeries to repair his forearm as well as a minor back surgery during the offseason, forcing him to miss the first six games of this season.
