adrian petersonFootball fans expecting to see a matchup of the NFL’s two best running backs — Adrian Peterson and LeSean McCoy — on Sunday will likely be be disappointed to hear that Peterson won’t be playing.

Sean Jensen of K-TWIN reports that Vikings players were informed on Saturday night that Peterson and his backup, Toby Gerhart, won’t see any game action when the team matches up against the Eagles. Both players were listed as questionable during the week.

Peterson is second in the NFL with 1,221 rushing yards, and McCoy is first in the league with 1,305 rushing yards.

In Peterson’s absence last week after he suffered an ankle injury against the Ravens, Gerhart managed 89 rushing yards on 15 carries. The Vikings’ options at running back now are Matt Asiata and Joe Baynard, who have combined for three carries for nine yards — all coming from Asiata last season.
