Wes Welker won’t be on the field Thursday night.
After suffering his second concussion of the season on Sunday, Welker will be held out of his first game this year when the Broncos play the Chargers on Thursday night, according to the NFL Network.
Welker, who is in his first season in Denver, has played in all 13 of the Broncos’ games this season. Welker has now suffered two concussions in the last four weeks, with the first forcing him out of a game with the Chiefs in Week 10. The short window between the two injuries left little likelihood that Welker would play on the short week, nor is there much need for him, as the Broncos hold a one-game lead and control the tiebreaker with the Chiefs in the AFC West with three games remaining.
Welker missed just three games during his six seasons in New England, but it appears that his reckless style of play has led to more wear and tear this season. He has 73 catches, 778 yards and 10 touchdowns so far this season. There is no timetable for his return.
