Stephen Drew won’t suit up in pinstripes next season.
New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told MLB Network’s Peter Gammons on Monday that the team will not sign the free-agent shortstop.

After Robinson Cano left for the Seattle Mariners and Omar Infante opted to sign a four-year deal with the Kansas City Royals, it was speculated that the Yankees would target Drew to bolster their infield.
The shortstop’s name has been linked to the Bronx Bombers for much of the offseason, but now, it appears the Yankees will stand pat with Derek Jeter at the position. The Yankees also added shortstop Brendan Ryan from the Mariners to provide insurance for 39-year-old Jeter.
The Boston Red Sox have made it clear all along that they’d like to re-sign Drew, but the New York Mets also remain in the mix to land the 30-year-old.
