FOXBORO, Mass. — Devin McCourty likely will miss his first game of the season.
The New England Patriots’ starting safety sat out practice Friday, five days after he suffered a concussion against the Baltimore Ravens. Wide receiver Josh Boyce also was missing Friday, marking the sixth straight practice the rookie has been absent. Practice-squad running back Cierre Wood also didn’t practice.
There was a new player wearing No. 39, and he appeared to be a running back or fullback. It was not Wood with a new number.
McCourty and Boyce almost definitely will miss Sunday’s game after failing to practice this week. Rookie safety Duron Harmon likely will start in place of McCourty, who missed three practices this week.
UPDATE: We previously mentioned that defensive end Rob Ninkovich missed practice Friday, but he was on the field in a tucked-up jersey. Wood has been released from the Patriots’ practice squad, and the team signed running back Sam McGuffie, who was wearing No. 39.
