Monday night’s highly anticipated Seahawks-Saints matchup may have devolved into blowout territory rather quickly, but that didn’t keep the crowd at CenturyLink Field from being as ear-shattering as ever.
The 12th Man was out in full force in Seattle, reaching its peak when defensive end Michael Bennett returned a Drew Brees strip sack 22 yards for the game’s first touchdown. As the big man rumbled into the end zone, the fans in attendance jumped up and down with such enthusiasm that the celebration registered a magnitude 1 or 2 earthquake on a University of Washington seismometer located nearby, according to The Seattle Times.
This is the second instance of Seahawks fans triggering seismic activity, following in the footsteps of Marshawn Lynch‘s legendary “Beast Quake” touchdown run against these same Saints in the playoffs three years ago.
The raucous crowd also allowed Seattle to take back the crown of loudest outdoor stadium in the world, registering a peak volume of 137.6 decibels to narrowly surpass the record set by the Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium earlier this season.

Russell Wilson and Co. gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about, building a 27-7 lead before rolling to a 34-7 victory to grab a stranglehold on the top seed in the NFC.
