Hustle plays don’t often get rewarded on the stat sheet, but sometimes they make the highlight reel. One Virginia high schooler did just that on Monday night.
Marvey’o Otey, a player on the William Byrd High School basketball team in Vinton, Va., made arguable the best, and luckiest, play of his high school career on Tuesday night, nailing a no-look, behind-the-back shot as he ran full speed out of the gym.
Otey was sprinting down the court on a fast break when an outlet pass from one of his teammates went a little too far out in front. Otey chased down the ball into the far right corner of the court, though, and was able to save it before going out of bounds. However, he didn’t just save the ball for his team, instead he tossed the ball behind his back from beyond the three-point line and sunk the almost impossible shot.
Otey’s team ultimately lost the game to local Cave Spring High School 76-69. But at least Otey will always have this memory to hold onto from the game. Check it out in the video below.
