Dennis SeidenbergDennis Seidenberg‘s injury on Friday night certainly didn’t look very good. The Bruins learned shortly thereafter that the awkward tumble suffered by the Boston defenseman would mean the worst.

The Bruins announced Saturday that Seidenberg will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee. He suffered the injury late in the third period against Ottawa on Friday night when he got tangled up with Cory Conacher behind the Boston net in a 5-0 win over the Senators.

It’s a tough blow for a Bruins team that has been decimated by injuries this season. So far, however, they have been able to weather that storm, but the injury to Seidenberg is by far the worst of the bunch. They will be without a top-four defenseman for the rest of the season and into the playoffs where Seidenberg has been an absolute monster since being traded to the Bruins in 2010.

That means it’s on the rest of the defense corps to step up and try their best to fill the void. There’s very little chance, barring some sort of blockbuster move, that the Bruins are able to replace Seidenberg. Instead, they will probably have to look to their roster for some sort of help where there’s no shortage of competent blue liners.

The B’s know what they have in Zdeno Chara, but there’s a host of young D-men that the team will turn to as well. It may be time for some of the younger Bruins blue liners to bring their best and try to help the club absorb the blow the best it can.
