It’s almost Judgment Day.
The 2014 MLB Hall of Fame class will be announced Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) undoubtedly will be under a microscope, as this year’s voting is one of the most intriguing to date.
Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Craig Biggio, Mike Piazza, Jeff Bagwell, Edgar Martinez, Jack Morris and Tim Raines are among the ballot holdovers who have caused great debate. Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and Frank Thomas are among those who joined the ballot this year, leaving many voters struggling to get under the 10-player limit.
Maddux is one candidate who seems like a lock for Cooperstown, although we learned Tuesday that he will not become the first ever unanimous Cooperstown inductee. (One voter, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, left Maddux off his ballot and voted only for Morris.) The others, especially those sluggers linked to the Steroid Era, require far more extensive deliberation.
