New details have emerged about Aaron Hernandez‘s alleged connection to a 2012 double murder.
The Boston Police Department released a search warrant Tuesday night that details the July 16, 2012, incident and Hernandez’s suspected involvement, according to the Hartford Courant. The document indicates that police suspect Hernandez was inside the silver SUV that was involved in the drive-by shooting that left two men, Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado, dead and another man injured that night.
The warrant, which police obtained to listen to prison phone calls made by alleged accomplice Alexander Bradley, doesn’t contain any evidence that Hernandez was the shooter or suggest a motive behind the shooting.
Hernandez and Bradley, who filed a civil lawsuit against Hernandez in Florida for shooting him in the eye last February, were spotted on surveillance footage at the same nightclub as the two victims that night. They were later seen getting into a silver SUV that matched the description of the vehicle involved in the killings.
The former New England Patriots tight end, who has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of associate Odin Lloyd, only became a suspect in the double murder after the Lloyd murder charge aroused suspicion. The warrant indicates that police targeted Hernandez as a possible suspect after receiving an anonymous tip that, along with the surveillance footage, led to further investigation.
A silver SUV with Rhode Island plates that matched the description of the vehicle involved in the double murder turned up in a search of Hernandez’s hometown, Bristol, Conn. Police found the vehicle in the garage of one of Hernandez’s relatives. Authorities say the vehicle, which has since been towed and stored in evidence, was given to Hernandez by a local car dealership.
