With new head coach Lovie Smith at the helm, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have officially hired Frazier as their new defensive coordinator, the team announced Monday night.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Leslie Frazier, and I consider myself very fortunate to have him on my staff,” Smith said in a statement. “Leslie is one of the best defensive coaches in the NFL, and he has a long track record of helping players reach their full potential. He transformed Minnesota’s defense into one of the league’s elite units during his time there, and I look forward to working with him to do the same here in Tampa Bay.”

Frazier was fired by the Vikings just last week after going 21-32-1 in three-plus seasons with the team. The 54-year-old joined the Vikes in 2007 as defensive coordinator before becoming their interim head coach in the middle of the 2010 season. Frazier also served as the Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator from 2003-04.
