Washington Capitals centerman Mikhail Grabovski tried to send Ottawa Senator Zack Smith to the optometrist Tuesday night.
With the Caps in the midst of a five-game skid, Grabovski’s frustrations reached an all-time high during the third period against the Senators, which was unfortunate news for Smith. Down 2-0 midway through the third, Smith felt the wrath of Grabovski as the Caps forward lunged at him in the middle of a scrum.
Grabovski’s gloveless hand targeted his opponent’s face, and more specifically his eye, as he got a good feel for Smith’s facial features before the refs intervened. The two were given matching roughing minors with Grabovski earning an additional 10-minute misconduct. His early departure didn’t help his team any and the Caps went on to lose their sixth-straight game.
