It’s clear that even intense public scrutiny can’t break the bromance between Dennis Rodman and Kim Jong Un.

Rodman’s planned exhibition basketball game against a North Korean senior national team went on as scheduled Wednesday, despite some of the former NBA players involved saying they had second thoughts about the event. The game was scheduled for Jan. 8 to celebrate Kim’s birthday, and before the matchup Rodman took the court to belt out a rendition of “Happy Birthday” to the North Korean dictator.

He’s no Marilyn Monroe, but it’s the thought that counts.

The U.S. team was defeated by the North Korean squad chosen to play them, according to Sky News.
